Leonard Cohen - The Future

Cohen was on something of a roll from 1988 to 1992, releasing two records (including 'The Future') during this time period.  For Cohen that was quite a bit during his later career!

Cohen abandons his Synth-Pop sound from 'I'm Your Man' and returns to his (signature?) sound similar to 'New Skin for the Old Ceremony' and 'Various Positions'.  For me it is a welcome return.

This album starts out hella' dark!  'The Future' and 'Waiting for the MIracle' are perhaps amongst Cohens darkest tunes.  It is a rather unsettling introduction (although the songs by themselves are good classic songs!).  Things quickly cheer up though when the rest of the album comes around.

'Closing Time' is probably my favorite track and seems to be pretty popular.  It is probably the closest Cohen comes to rockin' out!
