Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate

Leonard Cohen really starts to hit his stride with this album.

Like in his 'Live at the Isle of Wight 1970' performance his voice sounds a little bit deeper here and I like that.  Is it because he has a better studio micro-phone, as recording technology got better?

There are some great songs on here.  'Last Years Man' is a real favorite and I could even see it as a sort of anthem, however it has never even been performed live!  Maybe someone someday will come out of some-where and breathe some new life into this song, sort of like how Jeff Buckley did with 'Hallelujah'!

'Joan of Arc' is a another good one, and I especially like the live version on 'Cohen Live (1994)'

The biggest mis-fire on here is 'Diamonds in the mine'.  It seems like Cohen was experimenting with some livelier vocals on this one, but sadly it is one of his very few epic fails in my mind.
